Fides Quaerens Intellectum is a project formed by two brothers in Christ who share a common interest in exploring God’s holy word with a Christ-centered approach.
We hope to share meaningful dialogue and to learn and grow in our faith. Readers comments are welcome. We don’t have all the answers, but we earnestly seek the face of the One who does.
The latin expression heading this blog is considered the motto of Anselm, Archbishop of Canterbury in 1093. Meaning “faith seeking understanding”, it should be the motto of anyone with an interest in the things of Christ.
Augustine wrote: “Understanding is the reward of faith. Therefore seek not to understand that you may believe, but believe that you may understand.” (Tracates On the Gospel of John No. 29)
This all starts with faith: faith in the God of creation, faith in Jesus the Christ – son of God, and the assurance of our justification and salvation by this faith. Yet faith should prompt a desire for deeper understanding. That’s what this blog is about. It will approach the Christian faith with the premise of the absolute authority of the inspired Holy Bible and a belief that God’s Holy Spirit can and will give us the deeper understanding we seek, while recognizing some things will be reserved for unveiling in the presence of God Himself.
John 4:23 says God is seeking worshippers who worship in both spirit (read heart/faith) and truth (read understanding). As He seeks us, so let us seek Him.
